Thursday 26th May What is hockey...
Hockey is a 11 aside and 8 aside game(witch means that there are 11 or 8 players on the field) that is played with a stick to hit the ball to your team mates and to get a goal at the other side of the field that is about two meters high and across with a goalie trying to stop the ball from going in goal.In hockey for 11 aside you have three fords two links three half's two backs and a goalie. For 8 aside you have three fords left ford center ford and right ford you also have three half's left half center half and right half with two backs. To play hockey you will need to have shin pads, mouth guard, hockey stick and covered in shoes When you play hockey you can play on water turf that has to be watered every few hours sand turf that has sand all over it and is very sore when you fall over!!!!! There is also just plain old grass that little kids sometimes play on. Hockey can sometimes be quiet a dangerous sport when you get good at it and start flicking the ball over hitting really hard. In hockey you have something called a p.c short for penalty corner where you have five people in the goal including the goalie. The opposite team has there half's fords and links at the top of the circle one player has to receive the ball and someone has to shadow them just in case they miss the ball and can't trap it!!!!! another one is called the long corner that is where the people that are defending hit the ball out and the other team take a long corner a long corner is when you hit it from the very side of the field and try get a goal from it !In hockey you have a half way line where you start the game you put the ball in the middle and the first team on the field or you can do a coin toss gets to start with the ball. When the ball goes out of the game and one of your team mates hit it out it will be the opposite teams ball when this happens you have to mark the other players not in your team so that the person taking the ball has no one to pass to even though he/she could do a auto pass it won't be the same not having someone to pass to!!!(a auto pass is were you can take the ball you don't have to hit it from the side line you can dribble the ball!)
So if your looking for a bit of fun and a good sport to play i suggest to get out there and have a go at hockey were you will have fun even if you lose the game it dose not matter because you are giving it a go!!!!
